Dot and Dash by Helen

Hello and welcome to @dotanddashbyhelen.  Dot and Dash provide handmade and bespoke items, all printed and made in the UK. . My name is Helen and up until Covid I had been working as a freelance costume maker, trainee breakdown artist, dresser and wardrobe assistant/ deputy/manager.

. Most recently I worked with the incredible band @annahmeredith on their world tour costumes, which was unfortunately cut short due to COVID but before then I  worked in both theatre and film (@overlordmovie @redtheplay, Little Shop of Horrors at @regentsparkoat, @nativityuk tour and many more.) . I trained at Arts University Bournemouth in costume with performance design specialising in costume construction @costumeaub. At university I was always in the dye room and it really sparked my love for pattern and colour.

I find creating patterns really therapeutic and have sketchbooks full of them. So during lockdown I decided (after talking about it for years) to do something with them and so Dot and Dash was born.  .

You will find most of my prints are made up of ‘dots and dashes’ (hence the name). If you spot a pattern you like but there isn’t an item you want listed, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I’ll be more than happy to make a custom item for you. A scarf, headband, cushion, stationary, T-shirt dress, maybe some fun dungarees? The sky’s the limit.

You will also find Macrame and Pom Pom Crowns listed on my Etsy Store, (they are still made up of dots and dashes!).

.

I have also tried to use my platform to raise awareness of various causes I’m passionate about; The Samaritans Emergency Appeal, Scoliosis Uk, The  Climate Crisis and the Black LGBTQIA Therapy Fund. As well as making sure my brand is as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible.
